25/10/2026 - FROM RAIN CAMPAIGNS PRO OFFICER -
It is understood that a number of residents in our community have received letters from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council concerning the display of posters at their homes expressing support for RAin (Residents Against Incineration) and concerns about the proposed AIC waste-to-energy incinerator at Milltown Road, Benburb.
We recognise that these letters have caused concern among residents who simply wish to express their views on a development that could have significant implications for our local community.
Questions have understandably been raised about how these complaints arose, why particular signs have been targeted, and whether advertisement regulations are being applied consistently across the borough. While we cannot confirm the source of the complaints or the reasons behind the Council’s actions, residents are entitled to seek transparency, consistency and a clear explanation of the approach being taken.
RAin has formally written to the Council to challenge the apparent disparity in enforcement and to request clarification on the circumstances surrounding this action, the basis for its decisions and the wider application of advertisement regulations. We will share the Council’s response with the community when it is received.
We appreciate that advertisement regulations must be considered, including where public safety may be affected. In the meantime, we remind everyone not to attach signs to public property, telegraph poles or other structures where they could create a hazard or raise safety concerns. Residents who have received correspondence from the Council should consider the specific requirements of their letter and seek advice where necessary.
Our message to the community is simple: do not be discouraged from making your voice heard.
Residents have a legitimate interest in decisions that may affect their homes, health, environment and the future of the area they call home. It is important that concerns are expressed peacefully, responsibly and through the appropriate channels.
RAin remains committed to representing community concerns, seeking answers and ensuring that residents are treated fairly and consistently.
If anything, this situation should reinforce the importance of standing together, staying informed and continuing to engage constructively.
Our community deserves to be heard. Our concerns deserve answers. And our voices matter.
